The internet plays a vital role in our lives, and Kenya is committed to shaping a digital future that benefits everyone.
The Kenya Internet Governance Forum (KeIGF) is a chance for different stakeholders to be part of the conversation.
What is the KeIGF?
The KeIGF is an annual event convened by KICTANet, a multistakeholder platform for people and institutions interested in ICT policy. The network’s guiding philosophy is that of encouraging synergies for ICT policy-related activities and initiatives.
KeIGF is a multistakeholder forum, meaning it brings together people from all sectors – government, businesses, civil society, and technical experts – to discuss critical Internet governance issues.
What to Expect at KeIGF 2024
This year’s KeIGF aligns with the global IGF theme of “Building our Multistakeholder Digital Future,” with a focus on the Kenyan context: “Building Kenya’s Multistakeholder Digital Future.” The event takes place during Kenya IGF Week, from June 24-27, 2024.
The 2024 Kenya IGF will focus on various key thematic areas including: Harnessing Innovation and Managing Risks; Digital Technologies for Development; Advancing Digital Inclusion and Strengthening Multistakeholder Governance.
A Legacy of Engagement
The KeIGF has been a leading force in internet governance discussions in Africa.
- 2008: Kenya hosts the first-ever national IGF in Africa.
- Since then, the KeIGF has been held annually, becoming a recognized platform for multistakeholder engagement. Kenya played a leading role in establishing the East African Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) which brings together stakeholders from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, and hosted, in 2008, the first EAIGF meeting under the theme ‘Thinking Globally acting locally.
- The 17th KeIGF continues this tradition, fostering inclusivity, democracy, and innovation in Kenya’s digital future.
